The University of Michigan’s Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) is excited to announce the launch of its groundbreaking program, the “Generative AI Student Innovation Competition.” With a focus on fostering innovation, problem-solving skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration, this competition is set to empower students to tackle real-world challenges using artificial intelligence tools.

The AI Challenge presents a unique opportunity for U-M students to showcase their knowledge and expertise in AI while addressing pressing global issues. The multi-stage competition spans several weeks, beginning with the October 10, 2023 application launch. Students will form teams of 3 to 5 members, encouraging diverse academic backgrounds to promote holistic problem-solving. Students will also be encouraged to use U-M’s new AI services for students, including U-M GPT, U-M Maizey, and the U-M GPT Toolkit.

Teams will be encouraged to develop tools, products, services, and demonstrations that leverage AI to provide solutions related to “big” real-world challenges such as public health, mobility and logistics, and climate change.

In the Research and Development phase, teams will have 3-4 weeks to brainstorm ideas, research, and utilize AI tools to address their chosen challenge. The competition will culminate in the Final Round on December 1, 2023, where team finalists will present their solutions in person to a panel of esteemed evaluators.

Up to $4500 in prizes will be awarded to participants.

Participation in the AI Challenge offers numerous benefits, including the opportunity to contribute to real-world applications, enhance academic achievements, develop technical skills, and foster valuable networking connections.

“We are thrilled to launch the Generative AI Student Project Competition,” says Kurt Skifstad, Dixon and Carol Doll Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship. “This program reflects our commitment to nurturing innovation and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit among our talented students.”

More information and the application will be available in the coming weeks. Please contact Crista Deneau, Entrepreneurial Practice Program Manager, at cldeneau@umich.edu if you have any questions.
