This summer, the University of Michigan’s Center for Entrepreneurship embarked on an exhilarating journey of international collaboration, leaving an indelible mark on all involved. Executive Director Kurt Skifstad and Director of Academic Programs Christine Gordon ventured to the College of Engineering’s International Program site in Copenhagen, where 12 talented University of Michigan students were fully immersed in a dynamic Entrepreneurship program at the DIS campus. Their visit was nothing short of inspiring, featuring tours of state-of-the-art facilities, engaging discussions with passionate staff, students, and instructors, and an up-close look at an innovative entrepreneurship class. The synergy between Danish and American approaches to entrepreneurship was remarkable, highlighting a shared vision of innovation.

One of the most thrilling moments of the trip was exploring practicum sites where our students were embedded in Copenhagen-area startups. These young entrepreneurs tackled real-world challenges head-on, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and insights into the startup ecosystem.

The adventure continued in Stockholm, where the duo attended a transformative conference on international education. The event brought together a diverse group of university presidents, deans, and international program administrators, setting the stage for pivotal conversations about the evolving educational landscape and the pressing needs of modern students. Highlights included a groundbreaking session on Universal Design for Learning, which delved into expanding curricula to embrace diverse learning and assessment styles. The conference also offered a fascinating field study on sustainability, climate neutrality, and the global green journey. Other significant discussions addressed critical issues of inclusivity, race, and gender identity, fostering an environment of open dialogue and learning. Attendees were captivated by keynote speeches from the former Prime Minister of Denmark and an EU administrator, who provided profound insights into the Ukrainian conflict’s impact on the Baltic Region and beyond.

And, of course, no conference in Stockholm would be complete without an electrifying start with an ABBA cover band, setting the tone for an unforgettable experience. This summer’s journey was nothing short of extraordinary, igniting passion and sparking innovation across borders!
