Thinking about what you want your semester at the University of Michigan to look like? If you want to walk away with more than just grades (think leadership, confidence, and real project experience), entrepreneurship courses are where you build what’s next. Here are five skills you’ll grow in CFE’s entrepreneurship courses, no matter your major.
1. Team Leadership
Leadership is about collaborating with real people, building trust, and rallying your crew around an idea. ENTR gives you space to lead (even if you’ve never done it before), so you learn by doing.
If you’re looking to level up your leadership skills, try ENTR 550, Interpersonal Skills: Leveling Up to Leadership. This course, taught by Dr. Eric Fretz, equips you with the power of Emotional Intelligence to master self-management, foster strong relationships, and lead teams with finesse.
2. Creative Problem-Solving
Sometimes, the best solutions start as wild ideas. In ENTR, you’ll stretch your thinking, tackle challenges from new angles, and turn roadblocks into opportunities. You don’t need a perfect plan, just the willingness to try.
In ENTR 570, Creativity & Product Development, instructor Erika Block will guide you in using creative thinking and storytelling to design new products that solve real problems. Take this course if you want to be a more effective teammate, problem solver, and leader.
3. Pitching like a Pro
Whether you’re pitching to classmates, potential partners, or investors, your story matters. Entrepreneurship courses help you find your voice and build confidence in the spotlight.
Want to learn how to give the perfect pitch? Try ENTR 410: Finding Your Venture. This hands-on course walks you through the process of designing and pitching a brand-new product or service. With experienced entrepreneur Brian Hayden leading the way, you’ll end the course with the confidence to take on any presentation.
4. Market Analysis
Want to know what makes an idea stick? Market analysis allows you to make smart decisions, not just guesses. In ENTR 500, An Introduction to Innovation: Tools for Career Success, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of essential topics like market analysis, equity and stock options, and project management.
Lecturers Dr. Aaron Crumm and John Hennessy are successful entrepreneurs who’ve walked the walk. With their guidance, you’ll develop skills that matter and gain the confidence to follow in their footsteps.
5. Real-World Project Experience
ENTR is hands-on. You’ll build, test, and launch real projects alongside classmates. By the end, you’ll have a portfolio and stories to share, helping you stand out to future employers.
Try ENTR 405: Digital Product Design if you’re looking to roll up your sleeves and tackle a new challenge. Lecturer Tiffany Teng is committed to helping the next generation of creators grow and succeed, making her course an exciting mix of creativity, problem-solving, and real-world impact.
Whether you’re exploring your path or looking for ways to stand out, ENTR courses are built for action. Find your fit, browse our lineup, and get ready to build what’s next.
