Programs Focus on Global Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Looking for a transformative, transdisciplinary and trans-Atlantic experience? The Center for Entrepreneurship’s partnership with the College of Engineering International Programs in Engineering is gearing up for its fifth summer of study abroad. These CFE curated experiences are open to undergrads university-wide.
ENTR Abroad: cfe.umich.edu/entr-abroad
Israel: The summer program begins with a select internship at one of Israel’s many high-tech companies in the city. This offers students an opportunity to bring their Wolverine acumen while honing intercultural communication, tech and business skills. Coursework rounds-out students’ time in-country.
France: Students will choose one of two deep-dives: project management in startups –or- exploring IoT (arduino+sensors+bluetooth). Students will also study French language and culture with a focus on multinational workplaces. Program activities include day trips to the Alps, as well as diverse industry and lab visits.
Denmark: Summer ‘19 internship experiences included biometric solutions, fintech lab, algorithmic black box, CO2 offset and Danish design solutions. A five-day study tour to Helsinki and Stockholm offers immersion in startup ecosystems in Sweden (SUP46, Impact Hub) and Finland (Maria 01, Aalto Design Factory, Kiuas Accelerator) demonstrating additional public-private collaborations and the relationship between entrepreneurship, innovation and regional community.
Portugal: Check out the European Innovation Academy playbook. Students engage daily with renowned speakers, mentors and startup investors from all over the globe. And no other participating university to date can compare to U-M students, who were collaborative members in top ten teams of 500+ annual EIA innovation challenge participants in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
“A super cool part of IPE Copenhagen is that it includes a study tour to Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. The entire trip lasted around a week, and it gave us the opportunity to experience the startup cultures in other parts of Scandinavia.” – Paul Smith (Mechanical Engineering – Denmark)
“The Portugal IPE program sparked my love for entrepreneurship by allowing me to connect with people from various cultures and build genuine friendships with people with different perspectives. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is interested because of the intersection of diverse intellect and rich culture.” – Ariana Khan (Ross School of Business – Portugal)
“It was a great opportunity to make connections with people all over the world, and I am sure we will keep in touch.” – Jessie Rosenfield (Industrial and Operations Engineering – Denmark)
“I felt quite enchanté by the life I lived in France…It’s this simultaneously delightful experience coupled with the fact that it was my introduction to this country that I have only viewed from the outside.” – Christina Liu (Computer Science – France)
“I will never forget this experience or the amazing friends that I have made.” – Kevin Wang (Electrical Engineering – Portugal)
U-M Alumni networking opportunities, regional excursions and additional co-curricular opportunities are highlights of each locale. Two locations include interning at select startup ventures. CFE+IPE offerings for Summer 2020 include:
