Interested in developing intercultural skills and a global mindset? Studying entrepreneurship abroad may be the right fit for you. 

All U-M undergraduates from all schools and colleges can participate in entrepreneurship study abroad programs through the Center for Entrepreneurship’s partnership with the College of Engineering International Programs in Engineering.

U-M’s IPE was recently recognized as the #1 Big 10 School and a Top 5 University for study abroad programs by the Institute of International Education’s annual Open Doors Report

Approaching its fifth year in 2020, this CFE/IPE partnership welcomes students who seek to gain skills in global innovation and entrepreneurship. With more than 150 student participants to date, these immersive multinational experiences are in-demand and student-focused. 

U-M Alumni networking opportunities and additional co-curricular opportunities are highlights in each CFE/IPE location and two locales include curated internships. Program locations for summer 2020 include Israel, France, Denmark and Portugal. 

ISRAEL – International Summer in Entrepreneurship with Professional Internship 

This summer program is offered through Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology. Students begin with an internship at one of Israel’s many high-tech companies based in Haifa, offering them the opportunity to apply engineering skills in practice while also honing intercultural communication and business skills. After the conclusion of the internship, students will participate in academic coursework, including courses on entrepreneurship and business, as well as a course on contemporary Israeli society.

FRANCE – Entrepreneurship with INNOV@INSA Lyon

During this summer program students will learn about Eruopean perspectives and new business innovation. Students will do a deep-dive into topics such as project management, economics and essential entrepreneurial skills. Students also study French language and culture, specifically focusing on intercultural competency, industry and society. Courses combine traditional lectures, exercises, case studies, quizzes and group discussions. Program activities include day trips to the Alps, and industry and lab visits. 2019 Student Blog

PROGRAM DATES: May 14  – June 12, 2020 | 4 Weeks 

DENMARK – Innovation and Entrepreneurship

This program focuses on business and entrepreneurship topics from a Scandinavian perspective. Students are placed in a Danish startup and experience firsthand the challenges of a young company while journeying into the entrepreneurship lifestyle. The program includes a five-day study tour to Helsinki and Stockholm to explore startup ecosystems in Sweden and Finland. Students will explore public-private collaboration, and the relationship between entrepreneurship, innovation and community. 2019 Student Blog

PROGRAM DATES: May – July, 2020 | 6 Weeks 

PORTUGAL – European Innovation Academy 

The goal of this fast-paced program is to go from an idea to a tech startup in 15 days. Students work in international, multidisciplinary teams to reach milestones for creating a startup from idea to launch. This dynamic program is designed to offer students an experiential learning opportunity that affords deep insight into the real startup life. Students engage daily with esteemed speakers, mentors and startup investors. U-M students were members in top 10 teams of 500+ participants in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  2019 Student Blog
