B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, Cyient
In a career spanning more than four decades, BVR Mohan Reddy has a long list of achievements, but still he calls himself a continuous learner, a mentor and an entrepreneur. These three attributes is what keeps him engaged and extremely busy. At any point of time, he is playing one of these roles and excellence in these roles has made him take up many responsibilities at local, national and international level. Below is quick summary of the journey:
Mohan Reddy is a visionary who has placed India on the global map for leading-edge engineering research and development (ER&D) services. Having established Cyient (formerly Infotech Enterprises) in 1991, Mohan Reddy pioneered computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) solutions serving international clients. Cyient is consistently ranked among the top 15 IT services exporters from India. Cyient is also the largest independent exporter of high value research and development (R&D) services from India. Cyient won Golden Peacock Award in the year 2012 and ICSI (Institute of Companies Secretaries of India) National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2014.
Mohan Reddy’s dream of founding Cyient was fuelled by his two decades of industry experience (during which he was widely accredited with the introduction of CAD/CAM to India), and a strong academic background. He holds Postgraduate Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India and in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. He also received Honorary Doctorates from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Andhra University, and KL University in India. Mohan Reddy is a Fellow of The Institute of Engineers (India).
Mohan Reddy has deep understanding of industry pain points and has been trying to address them with government through policy advocacy. Acknowledging this, he was elected as Chairman of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and is already handling various industry issues with the governments and working on nationwide initiatives, such as Make in India, Digital India, Cyber Security and Smart Cities. Mohan has served multiple roles for industry bodies; one of them was as the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region. During his tenure, he promoted AP as the top investment destination in India.
Mohan Reddy is an active speaker on various topics like: Internet of Things, Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Skills, Design and Manufacturing. He is a thought leader and is a strong believer of change. He has represented the industry voice in numerous forums across the world, including therecent Hannover Messe 2015 and World Smart Week 2015.
Mohan Reddy is very passionate about entrepreneurship and has been helping young start-ups with their funding requirements and mentorship to grow the business. He is currently advising state and national governments in setting up incubation centres and creating start-up ecosystem, one of the recent one being in Hyderabad called T-Hub and serves as the director on the board.
Mohan Reddy strongly believes that all four stakeholders (customers, investors, employees and society), must be treated equally. Mohan Reddy has immense passion towards promoting education in India. Not only has he launched several corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in education, but also established partnerships for academic and research collaboration, such as those with Deakin University School of Engineering, Australia; and UNITEN, Malaysia among others. Through Cyient Foundation’s “Adopt-a-School” initiative, Cyient touches the lives of over 10,000 underprivileged children. To promote digital education and inclusive growth, Cyient Foundation launched Digital Libraries. Apart from holding multiple roles in national and international education institutes, he also serves as Chairman, Board of Governors at IIT, Hyderabad, member on the Board of NIIT University, Neemrana; member of Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at lIlT, Hyderabad, and member on the Board of Trustees of LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, CIE division conferred the distinguished Leadership Award on Mohan Reddy in 2011. Mohan Reddy was the first Indian and the seventh recipient globally. Last year, he was recognized with the India Geospatial Leadership Award for his contribution to the field of GIS. Mohan Reddy was conferred the Distinguished Alumnus Award by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
